Maine Voters Reject Gay Marriage : NPR // I'm conflicted.

I am of two minds on the "gay marriage issue". On one hand, I feel that if two hetero consenting adults want to get married and commit to one another in the eyes of the state, then two homosexual consenting adults should be able to. And as it stands right now, marriage is not just a sacrament or a personal commitment, it's a legal thing.

On the other hand, I feel that marriage shouldn't be something the government is involved in at all. I'm inclined to suggest that GLBTQ folks and their allies would be better served in fighting to change that whole arrangement completely so that the state gets out of the marriage business all together. That way, the only thing the state would recognize would be partnerships protecting a family's legal rights in areas such as medical decisions, insurance, etc. but "marriage" would not be defined or sanctioned by the state.

I live in that same tension on these issues, Mak. That said, despite yesterday's setback, "gay marriage" feels to me like much more of a winning battle right now than "get the state the hell out of marriage entirely".

Jesus taught very differently than what you are supposing:

Mark 10:6-7

"From the creation of the world, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife."

So apparently God believes in the institution of marriage between a man and a woman. God made them male and female; Adam and Eve. God is angry with the wicked everyday. But, not just with homosexuals, He is also angry at liars, thieves, hetero fornicators, adulterers, murderers, etc... Psalm 9:17 says the wicked will be turned into hell! I believe it.

Icing for the cake is that Jesus taught creation science 2000 years ago for all you emergent macro evolutionists.
