look who Relevant validated this month!
*disclaimer: Relevant is a decent magazine as far as Christian magazines go. I know a couple of the folks there and they’re pretty rad. This in no way speaks against Relevant on the whole.Relevant Magazine seems to have this schtick lately (probably always). They feature 1 or 2 celebrities every issue who are *cue excited giggle* CHRISTIANS! The tone always seems to be a sort of new...

Pastor Rick Warren urgently asks faithful for...
It’s been a heck of a year for mega-pastor/bestselling author/power broker Rick Warren of the enormous Saddleback Church. It started out with Warren’s invocation at the historic inauguration of one President Barack Obama - and it concludes with Warren asking his flock to cough up nearly $1 million in just two days to keep the church out of the red. read the whole piece here via...

those tricky 'r's
Aliyah is almost incapable of using the ‘r’ sound. Because of this, Little Bear and Little Bill (2 of her fav. tv shows) sound exactly the same. So we worked out a code - she growls when she says Little Bear. LOL It makes me chuckle listening to her sometimes. Posted via email from It’s Stochastic! | Comment »

Lonnie Frisbee and the Non-Demise of the Emerging...
The Emergent conversation is coming to an end because people eventually get tired of just talking, the fact is that those of us in the ECM have spent a lot more time doing than talking.  To push that even further, why that dichotomy?  When TSK travels Europe and talks to folks about starting new, off-the-grid Christian communities, is he “just talking”?  Am I, when I write a book or a blog...

superhuman muffins?

I wasn’t allowed to listen to “secular” music. I started listening secretly to the radio when I was in the 6th grade or thereabout. My girls (7 and 4) have been dancing around all day singing Fireflies by Owl City, know most of the lyrics to Hungry Like a Wolf by Duran Duran and Debbie Harry is one of Shayel’s favorite musicians. They also know that Elton John is married to...

Thank you American health care system...
I would very much like to visit my OBGYN to get my most exciting annual exam and talk about my raging hormone fluctuations, receive a script for a $50/mo. birth control pill pack that will hopefully fix me without the need for outpatient surgery (costing me thousands) and leave with a $210 dollar bill. It’s everything I hoped for from this great country of ours. Posted via email ...

Dave Barry's year in review: 2009
It was a year of Hope — at first in the sense of “I feel hopeful!” and later in the sense of “I hope this year ends soon!” It was also a year of Change, especially in Washington, where the tired old hacks of yesteryear finally yielded the reins of power to a group of fresh, young, idealistic, new-idea outsiders such as...

Prayers for Broken People - Sacred Ground - RIP my...
Prayers for Broken People This was written by my friend Gideon Addington, who took his life last Friday: I am broken among the broken… Lord, deliver me from my despair.  Give me strength that I might continue to fight.  I am tired, I am lonely, and I feel I am alone among the mad.  I know I am not alone but my heart breaks.  Help me, save me.. I try so hard, yet I know I...

I wonder if giving kids a "moral foundation" based...
I have observed something over the past couple years that is very thought provoking for me. People I know who leave the religion of their childhood appear to have a strong likelihood of losing their moral bearings. So many I know have become moral drifters, making up their values as they go along and often getting swept up in a sort of adolescent ethical confusion. Men and women who begin to act...

the kindness of strangers
A little history: We live in an apartment about 2 blocks from the CSU campus. Most of the people here are college students. You can imagine the kinds of frustrations this living situation produces (although, the worst stuff that’s happened has been from people older than us and not students).About a week ago, we were getting the girls ready for bed and I hear a hard knock at the door....

festive
I spent lots of time knitting and crocheting today.  Worked on these for Shayel’s Amercian Girl Doll and will make another pair for Aliyah’s doll. I also finished this and am almost done with this.Tonight we went to the Gardens at Spring Creek (very cool gardens right near CSU) for a light show, santa lap sit (as opposed to a santa lap dance which might have been more exciting) and...
