*edited* phew, wasn’t as bad as I thought. Annoying though. Hope it doesn’t happen again. —I’m not sure what happened but I now have a bazillion photos from flickr streamed in here and lost my other feeds. I’m working on deleting the pics but it might take years. I apologize. I have an email into tumblr as well.

final advent reflections… →
…will be coming. But for now, please pray for my husband David and his family. His grandma (who he lived with growing up and helped raise him) is dying and may enter her eternal home as soon as the the next 72 hours. It will be a sweet release for her as she has been suffering from dementia the last few months but obviously will be especially hard for her loved ones this time of year. We will...

Notable Quotable: Henri Nouwen on mountaintop... →
..somewhat related to my advent reflection. The Mountaintop Experience At some moments we experience complete unity within us and around us. This may happen when we stand on a mountaintop and are captivated by the view. It may happen when we witness the birth of a child or the death of a friend. It may happen when we have an intimate conversation or a family meal. It may happen in church...

Advent Reflections: Day 16-17 →
Is. 35:1-10 Ps. 146:5-10 James 5:7-10 Mt. 11:2-11 Sometimes I like to read large chunks of Scripture and then just sit back an listen to what comes. I find that when I do this with a variety of passages, I don’t get lost and entangled in the details as much as I do when I’m focusing on a small portion. For me, there’s room for both approaches but I’ve recently begun appreciating the...

Are you disturbed? : Advent Reflections Day 16 →
Matthew 2:1-12 Yesterday at Revolution, David taught on the Magi. In the discussion time, someone mentioned that Harod (and all of Jerusalem I noticed I think for the first time ever) being “disturbed” (or “troubled”) really stuck out at him. He asked the question - does the birth of Christ disturb us? I thought that was a really great question and it’s really what I feel much of Advent...

Matthew 2:1-12 Today at Revolution, David taught on the Magi. we *are* the “them” - Advent Reflections: Day... →
Much of theology in the States seems to be about “reaching out” - “Jesus and the woman at the fringes of her culture” or “Paul learning about and adapting and reaching out to the Greeks culture” whereas in the UK the new forms seem to be emerging because Christians feel we are “the woman” or “Greeks” and have more in common with the culture ( and perhaps more provocatively see ‘more of Jesus’ in...

Sunday Dec. 9: Mary the Revolutionary →
Revolution: Dec. 9, 2007 The Mary You Never Knew: the subversive revolutionary Much of the material for this message was taken from Scot McKnight’s book, “The Real Mary”. You can find an article written by McKnight focusing on the magnificat here There is much more that Mary had to offer us than the Magnificat, but in this season we’ll focus on this one passage allowing it to shape our views of...

Mary the Revolutionary:Advent Reflections Day 12 →
This is an overview of my teaching on Sunday at Revolution. Much of the material for this message was taken from Scot McKnight’s book, “The Real Mary”. (I strongly recommend this book). McKnight had an article published in Christianity Today titled “the Mary We Never Knew” you can find it here. Luke 1:46-55 46 And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my...

Advent Reflections: Day 10 baby hugs →
Luke 2:4-7 My baby isn’t so much a baby anymore…technically. She’s almost 2.5. It’s hard to believe that this time next year I’ll have a 6 year old and a 3 year old. We’re not having any more babies (when we adopt we plan to adopt a slightly older child) and sometimes I get a little nostalgic about the newborn phase. I loved the newborn phase. One of the most profound things for me during...

Advent Reflections: Day 9, praying for peace →
I feel like I’m surrounded by pain and heartache right now - in my family (my siblings), with my neighbors, in my city, in my state - it’s all feeling very heavy in my soul right now. The shootings in Denver and Colorado Springs just add to that weight. I hurt for the families affected by these tragedies - the victims’ families and the shooter’s family. In times like this, esp. this season, the...

Ps. 72:1-7, 18-19 Ro. 15:4-13 (Is. 11:1-10, Mt. 3:1-12) Romans 15 “through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we have hope” This encouragement and hope should lead us to live in harmony with one another, the way Christ accords, in order that we may have one voice to glorify God BECAUSE Christ became a servant to confirm God’s promises that all would glorify him for his...

Advent Reflections: Day 7 →
Mt. 3:1-12 v. 7-10 How many of us so easily read John’s words to the religious and say - “yes! Take that!” But we need to remember that we are God’s representatives today. Christians are to be those hearing God’s voice, bearing fruit. How often do we presume that God is not speaking here or there or that this person or that person cannot know God because they aren’t Christians or our “type” of...

Advent Reflections: Day 6 →
Mt. 24:36-44 Is. 11:1-10 A shoot rising from a stump - life springing from death. God is constantly breathing life into dead bones all around us. Part of the alertness and active longing we should be experiencing this season involves actively and intentionally watching for the dead stumps where God is springing forth life-giving shoots and join him in his mission - for we serve the Missio Dei...

Advent Reflections: Day 5 →
Is. 11:1-10  In the beginning we find the end and at the end we begin again. T.S. Eliot says something very similar. What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from. Advent, especially as we start the Christian calendar again with year A, actively demonstrates to us that we serve the Alpha, the Omega, the beginning...

Advent Reflection: Day 2 →
Is. 2:1-5 Perfect justice and peace is what God’s people have always desired as it is God’s desire. v. 3 God’s ways are justice and peace. If we are to follow God’s way, we must follow the way of justice and peace. Let us prepare our hearts htis season to take action to follow THIS WAY.
